Eric Masanet

Eric Masanet is a researcher in the Energy Analysis Department at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research is focused on the development of tools and methods for sustainable product design and manufacturing, with an emphasis on electronics. Examples of his work in this area include the development of models for optimizing e-waste "take-back" systems and for minimizing the total energy use and greenhouse gas emissions "footprint" of personal computers. He also co-led research efforts on a recent U.S. EPA report to Congress on energy efficiency opportunities for U.S. data centers. Dr. Masanet also holds a joint appointment at the University of California, Berkeley, where he serves as Program Manager for the new Engineering and Business for Sustainability Certificate Program. He earned a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on sustainable design and manufacturing.
