Sean Garrett
Partner, 463 Communications
Sean is 463's San Francisco partner and maintains a close watch on emerging technology trends and the policies that could impact them. Sean has been in the middle of important technology policy happenings since running communications for a 1996 political campaign that brought the industry together.
In 2004, he achieved a long-time goal of co-founding a senior-level communications firm with 463's launch. He's brought his 17-years of public affairs, reputation management and corporate communications experience to the firm.
Sean currently works with Cisco, TechNet, Sun Microsystems, VeriSign and NXP. Recently, he has helped Sun devise corporate leadership campaigns around both eHealth and digital content efforts; managed a sensitive international reputation management effort for a leading mobile content provider; and worked with Cisco to create an intimate day-long New York senior editor event with top executives.
Sean has closely followed the digital entertainment market ever since he ran the communications team at the online music company Listen.com. There, he managed consistent media interest in the well-funded start-up and the Internet music market from 1999-2001. (Listen is now Rhapsody under Real Networks). Sean has been involved in early debates about the future of online video regulation -- most recently as a panel moderator at the Spring 2007 Video on the Net conference. He is the lead writer of 463's blog and shares many of these perspectives about the convergence of new media and regulation there.
Prior to 463, Sean was a Vice President at Applied Communications and then Bite Communications after the firm acquired Applied and ran several large technology accounts. He helped launch the CEO lobbying group TechNet to significant national media attention and ran PR for the group for two years while at Alexander Communications. Sean split his time between California politics and working on political and corporate efforts in the former Soviet Union between 1990 and 1996 -- ranging from two years on California Governor Pete Wilson's communications team to helping a political party in Lithuania during its first free election.
Sean earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Los Angeles. He lives in San Francisco with his wife, Chantel.
