The Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee panel event explored controlling online pornography and options for parents and families. The panelists were asked to address where we are currently falling short, the role for Congress, the effectiveness of the technology as well as the success or failures of law enforcement. This luncheon event provided a balanced look at the various perspectives on the online content debate.
The event included comments from Congressmen Bob Goodlatte, co-chair of the Congressional Internet Caucus. Congressman Goodlatte stated, "I also happen to agree that we need to do things to spread the word about what parents can do." Goodlatte continued by saying, "I agree that parenting is the number one solutions to this problem."
Moderator Tim Lordan of Internet Education Foundation, introduced the expert panelists that included Jerry Berman, former COPA Commissioner and Co-Chair of GetNetWise.org; Donna Rice Huges, former COPA Commissioner, Creator of ProtectKids.com and author of Kids Online: Protecting Your Children in Cyberspace; Larry Magid, Creator of SafeKids.com and SafeTeens.com, board member of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children; and Robin Raskin, a committee member of the National Research Council study Youth, Pornography, and the Internet and former editor of Family PC Magazine.
This event is hosted in conjunction with the bipartisan Internet Caucus and its Co-Chairs - Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Conrad Burns (R-MT), and Reps. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Rick Boucher (D-VA).
